it's all.....gonna break!!
so tonight, i went with my sister to see broken social scene. wow wow wow. of course. i mean, what did i excpect. i mean, new york was new york, but this was a much smaller venue and i got to meet 'em all afterwards. catch up, you know. because we're so tight and all. plus i got a super hug during hug-time in 'lovers spit'. and afterwards. and i love brendan canning. i think i got a little too excited actually. and andrew whitman aka apostle of hustle, who i always thing looks like a nymphomaniac (right?) was so nice too and we all chatted and it was fun. ALSO, new buffalo opened and she was saying how on her ep, jens lekman (apparently pronounced YENS suprise suprise) sings with her and wouldnt it be nice if he came in today instead of tomorrow morning and he could have sung it with her. that would have been rad. BUT during the bss set, SPIRAL STAIRS (as in scott from pavement) comes out to play with them. also i do believe that hes totally second rate, pavement or not. and he didnt really do anything impressive. and when i went to find him after, he was totally out of it or super drunk. later on when the band drove off in their big white van to go to bed, they're all waving, and we spot spiral, all alone, crossing the quiet street, walking wherever. so i was like, from across the road 'hi spiral stairs!' and he was like, hi! and we were like, so what are you doing here in australia? and he was like, um you know. to which i added, 'stuff'. it was totally weird. he's a bit weird. and not in an awesome malkmus kinda way. ANYWAY. i got a set list. and this kid next to me, from toronto told me that he was like best friends with teh drummer from the lovely feathers and i was like TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT I STARTED A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE ONTO SINGING POPE JOHN PAUL WHERE YA FROM? CRACOW POLAND! and emily haines and her ballbreaking punchpacking style and dance moves were absent, unfortunately, as was her bandmate jimmy shaw, as were all the members of stars who are all on tour. the trombone chick from architecture in helsinki played with them too. anyway. they were awesome. everything was great. i seriously dig their noise and love any band with about seven guitars playing simultaneously, each with like eight crazy pedals and layers and layers of full and crazy and facemelting yet also heartbreaking SOUND. forever and ever. amen. GOODNIGHT.
